Michael Vaughn - Singer, Conductor
Michael Vaughn is a music director, singer, and voice teacher who has worked in the Houston area for 20 years. His singing credits include many leading operatic roles and extensive concert work. Highlights include singing solos with the Houston Symphony in Schubert’s Mass in E-flat and the baritone solos from the Operatic Scene of Nabuo Uematsu's Grammy Award winning "Final Fantasy" as part of the Symphony's Popular Music Series. Michael received his undergraduate degrees from Ithaca College in both Music Education and Voice and a Master’s Degree in Voice from the University of Houston. Further studies at UH included conducting with Dr. Charles Hausmann where he was named Assistant Conductor of the Houston Symphony Chorus. He has served on the voice faculties of Texas Southern University and Lee College, as well as on the faculty of the Theater Departments at Sam Houston State University and San Jacinto College.
As a teacher Michael has seen his students win major awards and scholarships throughout the United States with students singing in Broadway productions and in major opera houses. Equally at home as a conductor Michael has conducted numerous choral masterworks and his productions as vocal music director for Klein High School’s musicals were nominated 4 years in a row for best chorus, music direction, and best show - including a win for ‘best chorus’ in Bye Bye Birdie - as part of the highly regarded Tommy Tune Awards in the Houston area.
While still enjoying singing and teaching, his true passion is working with community groups and in traditional church music. Michael is the Director of Worship for the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and the 2023/2024 Dean of Texas Conference Choir Clinic (Texas Choir Camp) in Palestine, TX. He is also the Director of Music and Traditional Worship at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, TX. Michael’s hobbies include cooking, working on cars, coaching little league baseball, and traveling with his family.
