Michael D. Matlock just finished his 20th year as choral director at Andrews High School and his 29th year of teaching choral music. Prior to coming to Andrews, Michael taught in Muleshoe, Lamesa, Brownfield, and Seminole.
He graduated with his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Michael’s choirs have been earning Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests for many years. The Andrews High School A Cappella Choir performed at the 2021 TMEA Virtual Convention. The A Cappella Women’s Choir performed at the 2012 TMEA Convention.
An active member of TMEA, Michael has served as a Region XVI JH Region Coordinator, Regions VI and XVI Vocal Chairman, Area B Vocal Chairman, TMEA Vocal Division Convention Facilities Coordinator, TMEA Vocal Division Convention Coordinator, TMEA Small School All-State Choir Organizer, and UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest host. He currently serves as the Small School Choir Area West Vocal Chairman. He is active as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the state. In addition to TMEA, he is a member of TCDA, ACDA, TMAA, and MOWT.
He lives in Andrews with his wife, Summer, their 20-year-old daughter, Ryleigh, their 10-year-old son, Bryson (who is performing with the 2023 TCDA Elementary Honor Choir), and their 6-year-old daughter Tatum. Michael’s 21-year-old son, Keller, is a senior at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.
