Keller ISD
Fort Worth, Texas
Kelli King is in her 10th year teaching elementary music. She has taught in Keller ISD at Park Glen elementary since 2015. She previously taught k-12 and k-6 in Arkansas, but is actually a Texas native. King earned her Bachelors in Music Education with choral emphasis from Ouachita Baptist University in 2012 and a Master of Arts in Music from Texas Woman’s University in 2018.
Elementary music and choir are a passion of King's, as the music teacher, she believes in not only teaching basic aspects of music, but to engage students in a love of music in their own way. She believes relationships come first and music making comes second. A goal for her students includes gaining a passion and a lifelong appreciation and understanding for all music they might encounter in their lives.
While most of her teaching is spent in her music room, once a week she rehearses her auditioned choir, the Cheetah Singers, on stage. Yearly, this after school club of 100+ students in grades three and four, are a highlight of the campus environment and calendar. King was honored to be chosen by her colleagues as their campus teacher of the year for the 2022-2023 school year.
When not teaching, King loves to practice yoga, drink iced coffee year round, snuggle her cat and dog, and practice learning ASL with her husband and two-year-old, Heather Blake. Heather Blake is partially deaf and just received her cochlear implant and will be a big sister in September.
