Carlos Saenz, tenor, is a former recipient of the UNT Dean's Camerata-Teddy and Barbara Coe Opera Scholarship, Sunny Van Eaton Memorial Scholarship in Voice/Opera, Winspear Music Scholarship, UNT Choral Scholarship, and an Academic Achievement Scholarship. During his MFA study, Saenz served as a graduate assistant in Opera under current Peabody Institute director, Sam Mungo, and attended under full scholarship.
Saenz has been the recipient of scholarships from the Texas Federation of Womens’ Clubs and has benefitted from the patronage of Ms. Martina Arroyo. Saenz is the winner of the 2011 Texas State University Aria and Concerto competition and has been a finalist at Texoma NATS. He has performed as a featured soloist with the TMEA All-State Mixed Choir and regularly works in concert with various universities and musical
organizations in the DFW Metroplex and surrounding areas.
Carlos has performed such roles as Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Don Jose (Nevada Opera cover), Morales, and Dancairo in Carmen, Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief, Sam in Trouble in Tahiti, Don Alfonso and Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Corporel in La fille du regiment, Peter in Hansel und Gretel, Belcore in L’Elisir D’Amore, Friedrich Bhaer in Little Women, Parrish in The Crucible, Berger in Hair, Al Calinda and Brother Trucker in Working, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and John Adams in The Mother Of Us All, among others. Carlos has worked with Nevada Opera, San Antonio Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, and the Martina Arroyo Foundation.
Mr. Saenz is Head Choir Director at Fossil Ridge H.S. in Keller I.S.D., sits on the board of directors for Fort Worth Chorale, and is currently serving on the TCDA Scholarship committee.
