Beginning students often struggle with left- and right-hand thumb placement. Whether the cause of excess tension, lack of understanding, muscle weakness, or a combination of factors, poor hand position development leads to misery for both students and teachers. Thumb and hand position problems are often exacerbated for students with special needs. This session will explore the reasons students with specific special needs struggle with proper left- and right-hand technique and provide pedagogical methods for developing natural, tension free hand positions for all string players.
