Learning to play an musical instrument could bring a person joy for the rest of their lives. However, our efforts at retaining players often end at high school graduation. What about the players who do not major in music, but could continue to find joy in playing their instrument and making music with others? What if more of our students enriched their adult lives and communities as amateur musicians while pursuing their non-music professions? In this session, we will explore the stories of adult amateur players, and discuss practical ways to create the experiences which foster the love of playing that lasts beyond high school graduation.
